What is this?

For more information and history about Webslug and it's performance tests please see our about page.

How accurate are the scores?

The short answer is not very accurate. However, it's a good indication of how a site performs against other sites and over a number of tests the average result becomes more and more indicative.

Another thing to note is that the tests performed only measure the page load time and not the perceived load time. Perceived load time is the time it takes before a page becomes useful to a user. Useful meaning they can read content or navigate the site. The only way to properly measure perceived load time is to sit a group in front of a computer and ask them.

Can I use the results on my site?

We'd love to let you use the results on your site. At this point we don't have functionality for feeds or badges but feel free to republish the results of the tests to your site.

We're still developing Webslug so we'd like to hear about how you'd like to use it. Just drop us a line.

How can I speed up my web site?

Web sites and applications can be optimised by focusing on a number of areas:

Most programmers spend their time concentrating on speeding up the server(s) and code when most of the slow downs (at least the ones users notice) are on the front-end.

We have compiled a list of resources for front end performance.
